Driver arrested in Tbilisi over car plunge into Mtkvari River

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has reported the arrest of one person in connection with a car plunging into the Mtkvari (Kura) River in Tbilisi. According to the ministry, the accused, while driving his vehicle, collided with other moving vehicles, causing one of the drivers to veer into the river.

“As a result of investigative measures, officers of the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have detained the driver involved in the road traffic accident that occurred on the left bank of the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi.

The investigation established that on June 2 of this year, the accused, while driving his vehicle, created an emergency situation and collided with nearby moving vehicles. Following this, the driver of one of the cars lost control and plunged into the Kura River.

Search operations to locate the driver are ongoing around the clock. Along with firefighters and rescuers, a team of divers and all necessary specialized rescue equipment are involved,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
