Zourabichvili Congratulates Armenia on “European Choice”

Salome Zourabichvili, the fifth president of Georgia, has reacted to the exit poll results conducted by Armenia’s ruling party—the party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to her, Armenia has chosen freedom, independence, and a European future.

“Sincere congratulations to Nikol Pashinyan! Today, Armenia has firmly chosen a free, independent, and European future. This historic choice strengthens democracy and asserts our region’s place in the European family of states. The Georgian people express their full solidarity with you!” Zourabichvili wrote.

Notably, according to an exit poll conducted on behalf of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s “Civil Contract” party, the ruling party is leading the parliamentary race with 56.7%.

It is followed by the pro-Russian bloc of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, “Strong Armenia”, with 17.5%.

Media outlets point out that Azerbaijan, for the sake of lasting peace, demands changes to the Constitution of Armenia, which contains a reference to “reunification with Nagorno-Karabakh.”

This requires holding a referendum, which is only possible with the approval of two-thirds of the Armenian parliament, while the main opposition forces oppose the move.

It should be added that no official exit poll was conducted in Armenia on June 7, the day of the parliamentary elections.

The parliamentary elections have taken place, with 18 political forces participating—2 blocs and 16 parties. A total of 2,485,851 Armenian citizens were eligible to vote. The country’s legislative body is elected under a proportional system. The electoral threshold is 4% for parties and 8% for blocs.
