Joe Wilson: “Georgian Dream” regime is selling out the country to China, Russia, and Iran

US Congressman Joe Wilson issued a sharp rebuke of the Georgian authorities ahead of the House of Representatives passing the “Countering Chinese Control of the Caucasus Act” bill. Speaking in Congress, he stated that Georgia is a long-standing and reliable US ally, with the majority of its citizens supporting close ties with the West. At the same time, he accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of abandoning its pro-Western course and moving closer to China, Russia, and Iran.

According to the congressman, the Georgian authorities are acting against the interests of the Georgian people and the United States. Wilson also reiterated claims of election fraud in the country and criticized Georgia’s leadership for its anti-American rhetoric.

Wilson emphasized that relations between Washington and Tbilisi cannot normalize without free and fair elections.

“The nightmare ‘Georgian Dream’ regime must, through free and fair elections, abandon its anti-American course, release political prisoners, end politically motivated prosecutions, ensure a fair electoral environment, repeal draconian laws that stifle American business, and end the crackdown on free speech,” Wilson said.

Wilson noted that the new bill provides for closer US scrutiny of China and Russia’s activities in the Caucasus, including Georgia. According to him, the document will help expose covert operations by Moscow and Beijing in the region, as well as allow Washington to review its approach to providing financial assistance to Tbilisi.

The bill has already been approved by the US House of Representatives and will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.
