Giorgi Bakhuashvili, a former personal bodyguard of Bidzina Ivanishvili—the billionaire, former prime minister, and honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party—has become the deputy to the new head of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Radio Liberty reports.
The ministry’s statement on the new appointment notes that “Police Colonel Giorgi Bakhuashvili has been appointed deputy to Minister of Internal Affairs Sulkhan Tamazashvili.”
The agency points out that Bakhuashvili has “many years of experience within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system” and previously served as director of the ministry’s General Inspection Department.
Notably, Bakhuashvili took office as head of the General Inspection of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on April 30, 2026.
