Afghan Sadygov, detained in Azerbaijan, banned from contacting his family

Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Sadygov, who was deported from Georgia, has been banned from contacting his family. His wife, Sevinj Sadygova, reported this on social media.

“According to the information I received, my husband, Afghan Sadygov, is being held in the Kurdakhany pretrial detention center. He is also prohibited from contacting his family and calling his relatives,” Sevinj Sadygova wrote.

A few days ago, Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Sadygov, who was previously deported from Georgia, was re-arrested in Azerbaijan in connection with a case that had previously been closed.

As a reminder, on the night of April 4, 2026, Afghan Sadygov was forcibly removed from his home in Tbilisi and expelled to Azerbaijan. Following this, the European Court of Human Rights issued a special statement pointing to a gross violation of the law by the Georgian authorities.
