Another defendant in the October 4 case may reach a plea deal

The Tbilisi City Court continues to hear the case against those accused in connection with the events of October 4 near the palace on Atoneli Street: Giorgi Chakhunashvili, Ia Darakhvelidze, and five others. Meanwhile, defendant Zakro Albutashvili intends to enter into a plea agreement with the prosecution. Following the announcement of this information, some of the defense lawyers refused to continue representing the defendant.

The remaining defendants—Giorgi Chakhunashvili, Ia Darakhvelidze, David Zhgenti, Konstantine Kokaya, Kakhaber Mzhavanadze, and David Sturua—still do not admit guilt.

According to the case files, all defendants have been charged under Part 2 of Article 19–222 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers attempted group seizure or blocking of strategic or highly important facilities. They are also charged under Part 2 of Article 225 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns participation in group violence.

Ia Darakhvelidze and Giorgi Chakhunashvili are currently free on bail.

In total, 64 people have been criminally prosecuted in connection with the October 4 events. To date, 22 of the accused have reached plea agreements.
