Three police officers were detained in February: Ministry of Internal Affairs comments on TV Pirveli report

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has commented on footage of violence at a police station, broadcast by the Pirveli TV channel, which depicts acts of violence against citizens committed by police officers.

The ministry states that this crime was uncovered in February of this year by the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Based on the transferred materials, an investigation was launched, and on February 23, 2026, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia detained all three police officers as defendants.

“This concerns three officers of the Imereti Police Department who, in the summer of 2022, were on a temporary assignment in Kobuleti, in the Adjara region, and committed the crime captured on the video footage.

The aforementioned crime was uncovered in February of this year by the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Based on the transferred materials, an investigation was initiated, and on February 23, 2026, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia detained all three police officers as defendants.

We are aware that the journalists who distributed the preview also possessed this information, but deliberately omitted it from the program’s preview, which is aimed at deliberately discrediting the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the statement reads.
