Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna expressed regret that, as he put it, “the Georgian regime is going down completely the wrong path and is not moving towards the European Union.”
He addressed the people of Georgia, who want to become part of the EU family, and urged them not to lose hope.
“Armenia’s experience has shown that if the people want it, democratic elections can ultimately take place and a European path will open up. Therefore, one should not lose hope, because Europe will remain open to Georgia,” the politician stated.
According to him, Tallinn is considering sanctions against Georgia and “individuals.”
“Yes, we are considering sanctions against Georgia and individuals. Estonia has already included a very long list of people in its national sanctions list, but we hope that this pressure will ultimately work. What the Georgian people need to do is not a decision for the European Union, but a decision for the Georgian people themselves. We Estonians truly understand that the situation is difficult,” Tsahkna noted.
