Body of driver missing after June 2 crash found in Mtkvari River

Rescuers have found the body of the driver of a car that plunged into the Mtkvari (Kura) River as a result of a road accident on June 2.

The Emergency Management Service reported that search operations had been conducted continuously, 24 hours a day, for 14 days along the banks of the Mtkvari within Tbilisi and Rustavi.

“Search operations were conducted round-the-clock in Tbilisi and Rustavi, along the riverbanks. More than 100 firefighters and rescuers from the Emergency Management Service, diving teams, as well as relevant machinery and specialized equipment, were involved daily.

The body has already been recovered from the water, and the appropriate legal procedures are being carried out,” the statement said.
