Zourabichvili: Georgia is not on the path to European integration

Salome Zourabichvili, the fifth president of Georgia, stated in an interview with the US television channel CBS News that Ukraine and Moldova have already taken their first steps on the path to European integration.

Meanwhile, Georgia, she noted, should have been at this very stage, but failed to get there due to pressure from the Russian Federation and the “regime” currently in power—the rule of “Georgian Dream” (the ruling party).

The politician noted that Georgia is “very far from democracy,” although just a few years ago it was “very close” to it.

“A country that was seen as the closest to the doors of the European Union and NATO. Yesterday, we saw the first steps of Ukraine and Moldova on the path of this European integration—the path where Georgia should have been, but it is not there because of Russian pressure and the regime currently holding power in the country,” Zourabichvili stated.
