Nino Lomjaria, Executive Director of the NGO “European Orbit of Georgia,” has filed a lawsuit against the Imedi television company over information spread by the broadcaster and representatives of “Georgian Dream” claiming that she allegedly advocates for punishing the Georgian people and canceling the visa-free regime with the European Union.
“This is about a large-scale smear campaign launched against me by the television company and representatives of ‘Georgian Dream,’ according to which I am allegedly demanding the punishment of the Georgian people and the cancellation of the visa-free regime with the EU. The lawsuit is not only about the lies spread about me. It is also about attempts to shift the responsibility for the consequences of their own policies onto others. I filed this lawsuit not only as a victim of disinformation, but also as a mother of two and a citizen of this country…
“I want to state that there is not a single witness, fact, or even an illegally obtained secret recording where I have ever said or thought anything against Georgia’s European future, its EU candidate status, or the visa-free regime. On the contrary, there are numerous facts proving the opposite. The campaign against me indicates that the authorities are already preparing the ground for the consequences that may arise from their own anti-European policy.
“In reality, they are no longer thinking about how to preserve the visa-free regime. They are thinking about whom to blame for its potential loss. This is a campaign to save themselves, not to preserve free movement to Europe for Georgian citizens,” Lomjaria said.
