Tbilisi and Dushanbe to Expand Cooperation in Economy, Tourism, and Education

The Government of Georgia has published a joint communique by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. The document notes that the sides emphasized the special significance of the visit, which opens a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Georgia.

“During the talks, which took place in an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding, the sides particularly noted the significance of the visit, which opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Georgia,” the document states.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, building on the historical ties and centuries-old friendship between the peoples of the two countries, as well as the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations of August 4, 1994.

Tajikistan and Georgia reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations, expressing a firm readiness to further strengthen friendship between their peoples. The document emphasizes that the states will consistently develop relations based on the principles of sovereign equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

The sides also expressed interest in further strengthening political contacts at all levels and noted the need to intensify the activities of the Tajik-Georgian parliamentary friendship group.

In addition, Tajikistan and Georgia reaffirmed their readiness to comprehensively deepen cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, investment, transport, transit, and agriculture, as well as in science and education, culture, tourism, healthcare, sports, and youth policy.

The communique emphasizes that interstate relations between the two countries possess significant potential and broad prospects for dynamic development.

The sides also reaffirmed that deepening foreign policy cooperation and mutual support on key issues of the international agenda remain important elements of the dialogue between Tajikistan and Georgia.
