The de facto leader of Tskhinvali, Alan Gagloev, announced his departure from the “post.” The decision was made in connection with his transition to another job — as an advisor in the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
President Putin has already signed a decree appointing Gagloev as his advisor.
Gagloev addressed the residents of the occupied region of Georgia and explained that he had accepted the offer of Russian President Vladimir Putin to take the position of advisor and participate in the implementation of the so-called “Agreement on Deepening Allied Interaction between Russia and South Ossetia,” signed on May 9, 2026.
Gagloev noted that the document should facilitate further rapprochement with Moscow and become “a step on the path to the reunification of South and North Ossetia.”
The now “ex-leader” of the Tskhinvali region stated that he considers unity with Russia to be the historical choice of the Ossetian people.
The Tskhinvali “prime minister” Marat Kambolov will temporarily perform the duties of the de facto leader.
