EP does not invite Georgian parliament to EU enlargement meeting

The European Parliament did not invite representatives of the Georgian parliament to the meeting of the Interparliamentary Committee on Enlargement on June 24.

The EP press service stated that the European Parliament recognizes neither the legitimacy of the Georgian parliament nor the sixth president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, who was elected by this parliament.

“The European Parliament called on EU member states to limit political contacts with the ‘Georgian Dream’ authorities to matters of strict necessity. At the same time, cooperation with Georgian civil society, independent media, and academic institutions should be maintained and strengthened.

The European Parliament expresses full solidarity with the Georgian people, who continue their struggle for a European and democratic Georgia,” the EP stated.
