Scandinavia’s second-largest airline, Norwegian, has launched operations in the Georgian aviation market.
The first flight was operated using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
There were 180 passengers on board, indicating a very high load factor.
Direct scheduled flights between Tbilisi and Copenhagen will operate twice a week.
“Importantly, this is the first direct air route in history between the capitals of Georgia and Denmark. The new route will contribute to the development of the aviation market, strengthen ties with Europe, and attract high-spending tourists from Denmark and Scandinavia to Georgia,” the statement reads.
Additionally, Norwegian Air Shuttle is one of Scandinavia’s largest airlines and a leading European low-cost carrier. Founded in Norway in 1993, the company is now a major player in the European aviation market.
Following a restructuring in 2020, the airline focused on European routes, placing its primary emphasis on Scandinavian and short-haul European destinations.
Today, Norwegian operates as a low-cost carrier, offering basic fares with the option to pay extra for additional services, including baggage and seat selection.
The carrier primarily operates Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and continues to compete with major European budget airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet.
