“Gakharia – For Georgia”: “Dream” Remains Silent in Response to Violations of Territorial Integrity

“Gakharia – For Georgia” calls on the authorities to raise the issue of current developments in the Tskhinvali region during the 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions. The party’s statement notes that since the previous round, Moscow has significantly accelerated the de facto annexation of the occupied region, aiming for its integration into the Russian Federation.

“The new phase of annexation began with the signing of an agreement on ‘deepening allied relations’ on May 9, after which a Russian official was appointed head of the occupying regime in Tskhinvali.

Against this backdrop, the “Georgian Dream” authorities remain completely silent in response to obvious violations of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and even refuse to support a resolution condemning the annexation. Such a policy serves the interests of the occupier,” the statement reads.

The party emphasizes that the Geneva International Discussions are the only platform where the conflict between Georgia and Russia and the situation in the occupied territories are discussed with the participation of international partners.

In this regard, the party demands that the Georgian authorities raise the issue of current developments in the Tskhinvali region during the talks, and also calls on the co-chairs of the discussions to condemn Russia’s actions as a violation of international law and its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement.
