Zhorzholiani: “Reformers’ Council” will work independently of “National Movement”

Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Mikheil Saakashvili’s candidate for the chairmanship of his party, explained that the “Reformers’ Council” will work independently of the “National Movement” (UNM) party, but its goal will be to prepare proposals for reforming the party and strengthening it as a political tool.

She noted that Saakashvili’s initiative is aimed at involving people in the process who want to participate in political activity but do not wish to join the party.

“We want this to be a business coalition. There are people who can and want to participate in this process, but do not want to be party members,” the journalist and activist said.

Zhorzholiani noted that the council’s participants will include both members of the “National Movement” and people unaffiliated with the party, including former high-ranking officials. She added that the Council’s main task is to create an open format for discussing ideas and preparing recommendations.

Nanuka Zhorzholiani also emphasized that Saakashvili views the party as an instrument of political struggle that needs to be updated and made more attractive to society.

“The ‘National Movement’ is currently the strongest tool among the opposition parties, and Saakashvili proposes working together to strengthen it — to carry out reforms and create a party that people can use in the political struggle,” she noted.

The “Reformers’ Council,” according to Zhorzholiani, will not be part of the party structure, but will be able to influence its development. The Council’s proposals and recommendations will be submitted to the party, which will independently decide on their implementation.

It is worth adding that Mikheil Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, proposed conducting a large-scale reform of the “National Movement” party and creating a new body — the “Reformers’ Council,” which, according to him, should become not just an internal party structure, but an open public platform that can include not only party members, but also other specialists, public figures, and supporters of change.

Saakashvili stated that he is ready to head the “Reformers’ Council” and proposed TV host Nanuka Zhorzholiani for the position of executive secretary. According to him, she will become his main link to the Council’s participants.
