The driver who struck and killed a woman and her 3-year-old child in Gori was driving under the influence of alcohol, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed.
The accident occurred on July 13 in the center of Gori, on Chavchavadze Street. A Jeep struck a young woman crossing the road with her daughter.
As a result of the collision, the mother and child sustained severe injuries. Both died in hospital.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia opened a criminal case under Article 276 of the Criminal Code, which establishes liability for violating traffic safety or vehicle operation rules.
The driver involved in the fatal crash has been detained.
