In Kutaisi, the rector and dean of a private university have been granted bail in a fake diploma case

The rector and dean of a private educational institution in Kutaisi have been granted bail of 3,000 lari each as a preventive measure. Leonard Khvedelidze and Nunu Kuchakhidze have been charged with forging a diploma. They are currently being held in a penitentiary facility but will be released from custody once the bail is posted. According to investigators, the defendants produced an educational document for a Georgian citizen in exchange for a financial reward.

“This is a case of commercial bribery committed by a group of individuals. The crime took place at one of the educational institutions in Kutaisi. For a significant sum of money, the rector and the dean ensured the production and delivery of a fake diploma to a specific Georgian citizen. An intermediary was also involved in the crime.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against all three. Since the defendants fully cooperated with the investigation, the prosecution requested a preventive measure in the form of bail, and the court granted this motion,” the prosecutor stated.
