Prosecution Demands Arrest of Driver Who Struck Mother and Child in Gori

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against the detained driver who, while driving under the influence of alcohol, violated traffic regulations, resulting in the deaths of two people.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the charges carry a penalty of up to 12 years in prison.

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, on the night of July 13, 2026, in Gori, the accused, while driving under the influence of alcohol, violated traffic regulations and struck a woman and her child who were walking. Both victims later died in hospital.

The driver has been charged under Part 9 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (“Violation of traffic safety rules by a person operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the death of two people”).

The prosecutor’s office has already petitioned the court to order pretrial detention for the accused.
