Lasha Purtskhvanidze, the former director of Greenservice+ convicted in the Vake Park tragedy case, has been released early from prison. As he personally told the Pirveli TV channel, he left the correctional facility yesterday.
“I was released with an electronic ankle monitor. I applied to the parole board, and this was its decision. I do not intend to return to that company.
I cannot say yet what I will do next; time will tell. Right now, I am with my family,” Purtskhvanidze said.
As a reminder, on October 13, 2022, a tragedy in Tbilisi’s Vake Park resulted in the death of 13-year-old Marita Meparishvili, while two other teenagers, Andria Lortkipanidze and Lazare Lobjanidze, were injured. They received an electric shock while trying to retrieve a ball from a fountain in Vake Park in Tbilisi. 13-year-old Marita Meparishvili passed away. Doctors reported that she was admitted to the clinic in cardiac arrest.
The court heard the case under two counts. In one of them, eight of the nine defendants were found guilty. Former Greenservice+ director Lasha Purtskhvanidze was sentenced to six years in prison. Various prison sentences were also handed to Giorgi Vakhtangishvili, deputy head of the Tbilisi City Hall’s Environmental Protection Department, as well as Devi Kakhoidze, Nugzar Kitiashvili, David Tushishvili, Giorgi Gobejishvili, Lasha Chigitashvili, and Beka Murgvliani. Valeri Gobejishvili was acquitted.
