Lithuanian MFA: EU ready to work with Syria to revoke Assad regime’s decisions on Georgia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has announced the readiness of the EU and its member states to cooperate with the Syrian parliament to revoke decisions made during the rule of Bashar al-Assad. The statement by the Lithuanian foreign ministry reads:

“The European Union and its member states are ready to work with the People’s Council of Syria (parliament) to achieve common goals, including compliance with international law and the UN Charter, by revoking decisions made during the Assad era that recognized the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Georgia,” the statement says.

Previously, under President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian authorities recognized the independence of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, and supported a number of Moscow’s positions regarding Ukraine.
