Forecasters warn of heavy rain, hail, and flood risks in Eastern Georgia

Georgia’s National Environmental Agency has warned of deteriorating weather conditions in the eastern part of the country. According to the agency, periodic rain is expected in Eastern Georgia from the end of the day on July 18 until the first half of July 19. Precipitation may be heavy in certain areas of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kvemo Kartli, and Kakheti.

Forecasters also predict thunderstorms, hail, and strengthening winds.

The agency warns that intense precipitation could lead to a significant rise in water levels in the rivers of Eastern Georgia, flash floods on small rivers in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti regions, as well as trigger or activate landslide and mudflow processes in hilly and mountainous areas.

The hazard level is assessed as medium. Residents and visitors in these regions are advised to exercise caution and monitor updates to official weather forecasts.
