Lawyer of man detained in Kakheti: Russian tourists provoked the conflict

The lawyer for Giorgi Chigladze, who was detained over the incident in Kakheti, shared his version of events with the Pirveli TV channel. According to the defense attorney, the Russian tourists were irritated by the Georgian music playing at a wedding. He claims that because of this, they twice poured liquid from the balcony, damaging the sound equipment.

“Georgian music was playing, Georgian songs were being performed. Presumably, they could not tolerate this, grew angry, and then began pouring liquid and spitting. A verbal altercation then ensued between the people on the terrace and the woman standing on the third floor.

After the liquid was poured from above, the equipment was damaged and the music stopped. After a while, they managed to turn it back on, but about 15 minutes later, liquid was poured again,” stated defense lawyer Lasha Kapanadze.

The lawyer also confirmed that the detained man has injuries in the neck area. According to him, the woman was the first to swing at the man.

“The woman swung her hand, and he dodged. The blow was aimed at his neck. After that, the verbal altercation continued, then they both pushed each other, and he, defending himself, swung his right arm, striking her in the face with his elbow,” the defense attorney said.

According to the lawyer, the Russian citizens also behaved aggressively at the police station after the incident.

“We were at the station all night. They literally caused havoc there, screaming. One of them lay down in the middle of the corridor and declared: ‘Until they bring us food, we are not leaving.’ They also insulted the police officers,” Kapanadze said.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the young man has already been detained on charges of intentionally causing minor bodily harm. According to available information, no sanctions have been imposed on the Russian tourists at this time.
