The letter sent on behalf of US President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is of an exclusively protocol nature and does not indicate a normalization of relations between the two countries, according to the fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. According to her, representatives of “Georgian Dream” are demonstrating an ignorance of diplomatic practice by interpreting such a message as a political signal.
“If they were not so ignorant and uneducated, they would know that for every such congratulatory message—I mean the congratulations on July 4th—there is a response prepared somewhere at the department level and then issued on behalf of the president. This is nothing more than a standard reply to a congratulatory letter. Such letters are always sent to countries that congratulate the US on Independence Day…
I wonder why they are so happy about these few words received from a country they themselves call the ‘deep state,'” said the former president.
As a reminder, the press service of the Georgian government administration released a Georgian translation of the letter sent on behalf of Donald Trump in response to Irakli Kobakhidze’s congratulations on the 250th anniversary of US independence.
In the letter, the US President thanked the Georgian Prime Minister for the congratulations and noted that the United States is proud of the principles that have guided it throughout its history, and also values the friendship of partners who share respect for these ideals.
