An emergency situation has arisen in Tusheti as a result of heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt. The approach section of the road bridge near the village of Shenako has collapsed. The Tusheti Protected Landscape Administration is urging residents and tourists to refrain from traveling toward the damaged bridge, as the ground collapse is ongoing.
“Due to heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt, river levels have reached critical points. The torrent of water completely washed away the support of the road bridge approach near the village of Shenako, leading to the complete collapse of the roadbed.
This bridge connects the villages of Shenako and Diklo with Omalo, and also provides a link to the lowlands of the country. If you are in the villages of Shenako or Diklo, authorities are asking you to stay indoors or in guesthouses and not to approach the bridge.
In the event of logistical, medical, or other emergencies, please immediately contact the Emergency Management Service at 112, or the administration at +995 599 004 972.
For safety reasons, driving to the damaged section of the road is strictly prohibited, as the ground collapse is ongoing. All relevant government agencies have been promptly notified of the situation. Coordinated efforts are currently underway to implement preventive measures and plan further actions.
Information on the restoration of traffic on the Omalo–Shenako–Diklo road and the progress of the recovery work will be published in stages,” — the statement reads.
