Suspect Detained in Tbilisi for Fraud Involving Cemetery Work

Officers of the Main Investigation Department of the Tbilisi Police Department and the anti-fraud unit have detained a man on charges of large-scale fraud, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

According to investigators, the suspect promised the victim that he would landscape her late husband’s grave. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that, with the intent of illegally misappropriating a large sum of money, the man took 10,300 lari from the woman but failed to carry out the promised work.

The suspect was detained under a court warrant following operational-search activities and investigative measures. The investigation is being conducted under Part 3 of Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (“Fraud”), which carries a prison sentence of up to nine years.
