Cleanup operations continue in Telavi following natural disaster

The State Representative in the Kakheti region, Platon Kalmakhelidze, stated that cleanup operations to address the aftermath of the natural disaster are ongoing, and by now, Kavkasioni and Sekhniashvili streets and Alazani Avenue have been completely cleared of mudflow debris.

The official reported that municipal services have virtually completed clearing the epicenter of the disaster. Active work is also underway near the protective dams, with heavy machinery already reaching the third dam.

Clearing of the areas along Alazani Avenue and the Kisiskhevi River bed is also ongoing. In the affected villages, agricultural lands and damaged roads are being restored.

“The epicenter of the disaster has been almost completely cleared. Work is actively continuing on Kavkasioni Street, Alazani Avenue, Sekhniashvili Street, as well as near the dams. In parallel, the banks of the Kisiskhevi River are being reinforced,” he stated.

As a reminder, on July 12, following heavy rainfall, the Telavishevi River overflowed its banks in Telavi. Torrents of water flooded parts of Kavkasioni Street and Alazani Avenue, the ground floors of residential buildings, and damaged city infrastructure.
