Nodar Topuridze, grandson of writer Nodar Dumbadze, has commented on the assault on comedian Onise Okriashvili.
“Beating someone up in my grandfather’s name is either a provocation or the act of an idiot. That is my comment,” Nodar Topuridze wrote on social media.
As a reminder, comedian Onise Okriashvili was recently attacked. According to his wife, the beating is linked to a recent controversy surrounding the name of writer Nodar Dumbadze.
“Three young men stopped him in the street and asked, ‘Are you the one who insulted Nodar Dumbadze?’, after which they started beating him,” Okriashvili’s wife said.
A few days earlier, Onise Okriashvili spoke about Nodar Dumbadze on a podcast. His remarks were perceived by certain groups as offensive. Later, the comedian posted a video address stating that the clip circulating online was taken out of context and that he had not insulted the writer at all.
“Even if someone completely fails to comprehend what they hear, it is glaringly obvious here that this was not an insult to Nodar Dumbadze. We were discussing hypothetically who an absurd character might hate, and the most ridiculous option that came to my mind at that moment was Nodar Dumbadze,” Okriashvili explained.
