Relative of former State Security Service chief sentenced to 12 years in prison

The Tbilisi City Court has fully upheld the prosecution’s arguments, finding Andria Liluashvili, a relative of Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), guilty of bribery, aiding in bribe-taking, and especially large-scale money laundering. This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.

According to the agency, the evidence examined in court confirmed that Andria Liluashvili was involved in the operations of fraudulent call centers. Protection for these operations, the prosecution asserts, was provided through his relative—then-head of the SSSG Grigol Liluashvili. In return, according to the prosecution, Grigol Liluashvili received a substantial monthly reward.

The prosecutor’s office claims that in 2021–2022, Grigol Liluashvili received $1.365 million in bribes via Andria Liluashvili in exchange for providing protection to the fraudulent call centers.

Furthermore, the court established that for the purpose of money laundering, Andria Liluashvili, personally and through associated individuals, deposited illegal proceeds from call center operations and funds of unknown origin into bank accounts, invested them in affiliated companies, and conducted numerous financial transactions to acquire movable and immovable property in Georgia and abroad.

The court found Andria Liluashvili guilty on all charges and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

The court also ruled to forfeit to the state property acquired through criminal proceeds, as well as property of equivalent value, including: around 70 real estate properties with a total value of approximately 35 million lari; 17 vehicles; 125 pieces of jewelry and one painting; as well as funds held in bank accounts.
