Father of a child with Duchenne disease: drug delivery timelines have reached a critical point

Delivery timelines for life-saving medications are approaching a critical point, stated Kakha Tsikarishvili, the father of a child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He noted that details of the negotiation process are not being disclosed so as not to jeopardize its successful completion.

“The delivery timelines for medications for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy are already approaching a critical threshold. Meanwhile, we have lost another child…

But if there are no results within a few days, we will have to turn to the public for help again,” Kakha Tsikarishvili wrote.

As a reminder, 17-year-old Saba Makarishvili, who suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, has passed away. According to the organization “Fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Together,” the teenager died while under anesthesia following orthopedic surgery.

Earlier, in early June, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced the creation of a working group to address the issue of supplying children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy with necessary medications.

According to him, the final decision on the procurement of specific drugs will be made taking into account several factors, including the terms offered by pharmaceutical companies.
