Salome Zourabichvili: EU’s 21st sanctions package has exposed a national disgrace

The fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, believes that the European Union’s 21st sanctions package demonstrates that Georgian assets are being used to support the Russian war machine. She wrote about this on her social media page.

“The European Union’s 21st sanctions package exposes a national disgrace: Georgian assets are being used to fuel the Russian war machine. By allowing the Kremlin to circumvent sanctions, those in power are betraying our sovereignty.

Georgia’s place is in Europe, and we will never become a back door for Russian aggression,” Zourabichvili wrote.

As a reminder, the EU’s 21st package of sanctions against Russia included an oil terminal and an oil refining complex in Kulevi. The European Union is introducing a transaction ban on the Georgian enterprise, which will take effect in six months.

In addition, the EU imposed sanctions against 14 cryptocurrency-related platforms, including those registered in Georgia.
