Singer Paata Burchuladze, currently held in custody over the events of October 4, has urged all defendants to accept the plea agreement offered by the prosecutor’s office and secure their release from “unlawful detention.” In an appeal published on social media, Burchuladze stated that the opportunity to be released from custody must be used, as there is “nothing humiliating or degrading to one’s dignity” in doing so.
“Nearly ten months of unlawful detention have proven our unity and resilience. This has already become part of history, and over time it will become even more obvious. But today, in order to continue the fight, it is essential to be free. We must secure the release of people from prison, and this opportunity should be taken. There is nothing humiliating or offensive to one’s dignity in this. Such a practice has been used time and again by political prisoners.
I am making a special appeal to Academician Georgi Chakhunashvili, who saved me on October 4 from the severe effects of tear gas. As the oldest and a deeply respected prisoner, I ask him to set an example for the others and take this step. His health and his freedom are of vital importance.
As for me, as one of the organizers of this protest, I cannot consider the question of my own release until the very last patriot detained in the October 4 case is freed from prison. Victory is inevitable. The fight continues to the end!” Burchuladze wrote on social media.
