Traffic Pattern to Change Near City Mall in Saburtalo, New Bus Lane to Be Added

The Transport and Urban Development Agency of Tbilisi City Hall has announced the introduction of a new traffic pattern near the City Mall shopping center in Saburtalo. According to the agency, the decision was prompted by persistent congestion and chaotic traffic flow in the area. The agency noted that the changes are aimed at increasing road capacity, improving safety, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of public transport.

Specifically:

  • A dedicated bus lane will be introduced on the section between Tavkhelidze Street and Vazha-Pshavela Avenue. Meanwhile, the number of lanes for private vehicles in both directions will remain unchanged;
  • An additional vehicle lane will be added on Kavtaradze Street to increase road capacity;
  • The traffic pattern on Kazbegi Avenue will remain unchanged.

City Hall noted that traffic jams at this transport hub regularly caused difficulties for both private vehicles and public transport—particularly for 18-meter articulated buses, which struggled to maneuver through congestion.

Authorities emphasized that the changes will not be limited to applying new road markings: following the implementation of the new scheme, specialists will closely monitor the situation and make further adjustments to traffic management if necessary.
