Georgian Minister of Healthcare Mikheil Sarjveladze announced the signing of a contract for the procurement of Givinostat, a drug designed to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy. According to him, Georgia will be among the first countries in the world to acquire the medication and include it in its state disease treatment program.
“Regarding the drug for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, I would like to inform you that negotiations with an Italian company were successfully completed today, and a contract has been signed for the purchase of Givinostat.
This drug is intended for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy aged six and older, up until the loss of the ability to walk independently,” the minister stated.
Sarjveladze also noted that parallel negotiations are ongoing regarding the supply of another medication for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
“As for the second drug that was previously mentioned, I would like to note that negotiations are continuing on several fronts. We hope that they will be successfully concluded in the near future, after which we will certainly inform the public,” the minister added.
