Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the US Embassy under the previous American administration was one of the main sources of “artificially inciting hatred” and spreading lies in the country. He made these remarks in response to a statement by the US diplomatic mission, describing it as incomprehensible to him.
“The US Embassy under the previous administration was one of the main actors that artificially tried to sow hatred in Georgia and spread lies. Therefore, the embassy’s statement is incomprehensible to me, although that is their business,” Kobakhidze told reporters.
According to the head of government, it was only after the change of administration in Washington that grounds emerged to expect a reset in Georgian-American relations. He stressed that Georgia’s current authorities are interested in fully restoring the strategic partnership with the US and expect corresponding steps from the American side.
The comment was prompted by a statement from the US Embassy which, according to Georgian media reports, rejected the accusations against the diplomatic mission and emphasized its commitment to developing partnership relations between the two countries.
