The in absentia pre-trial detention measure against former Prosecutor General of Georgia Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze, accused of organizing the contract killing for financial gain of businessman Levan Djangveladze, remains in force, news agency IPN reports.
At today’s hearing, Judge Lela Kalichenko, in addition to hearing the parties’ motions regarding the inadmissibility of evidence, reviewed the remand measure in the form of custody imposed on the former prosecutor general and upheld it. This was requested by the prosecution, while the defense lawyers petitioned to revoke the arrest.
The hearing will resume tomorrow at 15:00.
As a reminder, Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze is accused of organizing the premeditated murder for hire and for financial gain of businessman Levan Djangveladze. He was charged under subparagraph “n” of Article 25/109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers organizing an intentional murder for hire and for financial gain. This crime carries a penalty of 16 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze is a Russian citizen and has been placed on the international wanted list.
As part of the same case, four people have been convicted—Gela Udzilauri, David and Giorgi Mikadze, and Giorgi Jokhadze; all of them were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Brothers Giorgi and David Mikadze, as well as Giorgi Jokhadze, were charged under subparagraph “n” of Article 25-109 of the Criminal Code, which implies organizing a murder for hire and for financial gain. Giorgi Jokhadze was also charged under subparagraphs “a” and “b” of Part 6 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which covers the illegal acquisition, possession, and sale of firearms and ammunition as part of an organized group.
As for Gela Udzilauri, he was convicted of the intentional murder for hire and for financial gain of Levan Djangveladze and the attempted murder of Gia Chaduneli.
