Against the backdrop of unstable operations at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, Kazakhstan is considering the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Supsa pipelines, as well as a transit route across the Caspian Sea, as additional routes for oil exports.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy reported this to the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency.
According to reports by Azerbaijani media, Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company plans to increase oil exports via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline by 31% in 2026 compared to 2025, reaching 1.7 million tonnes.
The volume of Kazakh oil transshipment through the port of Aktau toward the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline totaled 704,000 tonnes in January–June 2026.
The length of the pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, and its throughput capacity exceeds 50 million tonnes of oil per year.
The project shareholders are:
- Azerbaijan’s SOCAR — 32.97%,
- British BP — 30.1%,
- Hungarian MOL — 8.9%,
- Turkish TPAO — 6.53%,
- Italian Eni and French TotalEnergies — 5% each,
- Japanese Itochu — 3.4%,
- Indian ONGC Videsh — 3.1%,
- American ExxonMobil and
- Japanese INPEX — 2.5% each.
