A tender has been announced in the Georgian town of Bolnisi for the construction and restoration of tourist and urban infrastructure, reports news outlet BPN.ge.
The estimated value of the procurement, announced by the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, is 1,707,667 lari (around $650,000). Bidding will open on September 9 and close on September 14.
The tender covers the procurement of both design services and direct construction and rehabilitation work.
According to the tender documentation, the project to develop Bolnisi’s tourist and urban infrastructure includes the rehabilitation of the historic area of the German settlement (the German colony of Katharinenfeld was founded on the site of the town in the 19th century), cultural heritage sites, and the central park.
According to the technical specifications, plans entail renovating existing buildings and structures, streets, and pedestrian infrastructure in the historic district, as well as upgrading utility networks, street lighting, and public spaces.
The project also provides for the development of sports, recreational, and cultural zones, playgrounds, pedestrian and bicycle paths in the central park, as well as the renovation of the April 9 Memorial.
As part of the development of the park and historic area, plans also include installing outdoor lighting, directional signage, creating water features, fountains, and modern irrigation and security systems. The project further encompasses upgrading water supply, sewage, drainage, and power supply networks.
According to the Municipal Development Fund, special attention will be paid to the development of cultural tourism. Archaeological monuments, medieval Georgian architecture, and the German settlement are planned to be integrated into a single tourist route, making Bolnisi an even more attractive destination for both domestic and foreign visitors.
In addition, the project provides for the development of wine tourism.
“The functional restoration of historic German marani (wine cellars) and their integration with the centuries-old tradition of Bolnisi winemaking will contribute to the diversification of the region’s tourism product and the expansion of its economic opportunities.
As a result of this large-scale rehabilitation, new public and recreational spaces will be created in the town of Bolnisi, boosting its tourism potential and showcasing the town’s unique historical and cultural identity,” the Fund noted.
