Kobakhidze Confirms Fuel Deliveries to Abkhazia, Clarifies Action Was Taken by Business, Not Government

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has confirmed that fuel was delivered to occupied Abkhazia from territory controlled by official Tbilisi. At the same time, according to him, the supply was carried out not by the government, but by private business.

Kobakhidze noted that if an opportunity arises in the future to ease the situation of the Georgian or Abkhaz population living in the region, such a step will be taken, but strictly within the framework of the Law “On Occupied Territories”.

“In general, our current legal framework, including the Law ‘On Occupied Territories,’ permits such actions. If any such step has been or will be taken, all such steps are taken exclusively within the framework of the Law ‘On Occupied Territories.’ If we can ease the situation of the population living in Abkhazia as well, we will do so, but again, strictly within the framework of the Law ‘On Occupied Territories.’

As for the import of fuel — it was brought in not by us, but by business. If in the future we again have the opportunity to ease the situation of the population living there, whether Georgian or Abkhaz, we will continue to do so,” Kobakhidze stated at a briefing.
