Kobakhidze: Deep State Is Fueling Russophobia in Georgia

“The example of Georgia clearly demonstrates that radical anti-Russian sentiment is fake, and this is confirmed by concrete facts,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the government administration.

According to him, all of this is part of a plan by the “Deep State” to artificially escalate Russophobia using its own network of agents.

“I believe the public should know the objective behind the Deep State’s plan to artificially stoke Russophobia in Georgia through its agents.

The Georgian authorities have repeatedly noted that since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, the ‘Global War Party’ has done everything possible to drag our country into this conflict and open a second front in Georgia. This was precisely the ‘window of opportunity’ that posed an existential threat to our country and our people.

The demand to open a second front was soon followed by directives to join the sanctions imposed against Russia, which were aimed at causing the collapse of the Georgian economy,” Kobakhidze stated.

According to the Prime Minister, it was precisely because Tbilisi refused these demands, pursued an independent sovereign policy, and acted in the national interest that Georgia became a target for European bureaucracy and Western leaders operating under the control of informal oligarchic forces.

“In this process, various countries clearly controlled by the ‘Deep State’—including the previous US administration, the Biden leadership—deployed all mechanisms of pressure: they imposed sanctions against top officials of Georgia’s leadership, the honorary chairman of the ruling party, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgian judges, senior police officials, private individuals, and so on. Furthermore, to pressure the authorities, they weaponized Georgia’s stated goal of becoming a full member of the European Union.”

As Kobakhidze believes, when even this failed to yield the desired result, “since they were unable to subjugate the ruling party,” they are now attempting to drag Georgia into a new provocation with the help of their own agents.

According to the Prime Minister, this represents a qualitatively new phase of an assault directed against Georgia, the Georgian people, and its sovereignty, unfolding simultaneously across several fronts.

“My goal today is precisely to inform the public about this new stage of the attack launched against our country,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
