Mikheil Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, has dismissed as a lie claims that petrol sent to occupied Abkhazia was intended for the region itself. Writing on his social media accounts, the politician expressed conviction that the fuel was instead re-routed to southern regions of Russia.
According to the former president, this is the exact reason fuel prices are surging in Georgia.
“It is a lie that petrol coming into Georgia goes to Abkhazia! Only a negligible fraction remains there; in reality, it goes to the southern regions of Russia, which are suffering shortages due to Ukrainian strikes, driving petrol prices sky-high. This is precisely why petrol in Georgia now costs 4 lari. This is what turning into an economic vassal of Russia leads to.
