Court Fines Adjara TV Journalist for Disobeying Police

The Batumi City Court has imposed an administrative fine of 2,000 GEL (approximately $750) on Koba Partenadze, a TV anchor for the Adjara Public Broadcaster.

The journalist, who in the preceding days had reported receiving threats and facing violence, was detained by police on the morning of August 17 while being questioned as a witness. Partenadze was charged with violating Articles 166 (petty hooliganism) and 173 (disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer) of the Code of Administrative Offences of Georgia. He was later released from a temporary detention facility on his own recognizance.

As previously reported, on August 12 the journalist stated that he had been subjected to threats and insults. At the time, a criminal case was initiated and suspects were apprehended. Later, on August 16, the television presenter reported that he had been attacked once again.
