Police Academy of Georgia Receives Higher Education Institution Authorization

The Academy of Public Safety and Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has received the status of a higher education institution and unconditional authorization for a term of six years.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the academy will also be eligible to apply to the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement to obtain accreditation for its bachelor’s degree program in “Public Safety and Policing.”

“The program corresponds to the first level of higher education — the bachelor’s degree. Its objective is to prepare highly qualified personnel in the field of public safety and public order maintenance, as well as the detection, suppression, investigation, analysis, and prevention of crimes and other offenses.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded the qualification of Bachelor of Public Safety and Policing.

Alongside vocational education programs, the Police Academy will now be able to deliver higher education programs,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.

The Police Academy became a higher education institution several months ago following a legislative initiative introduced by the ruling Georgian Dream party. Giorgi Sakhokia, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, was appointed rector of the institution.
