Russian Foreign Ministry Calls on Georgian Authorities to Prevent Russophobia

Russia calls on the Georgian authorities to respond to incidents of attacks on Russian citizens and take measures to ensure their safety, stated Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID), RIA Novosti reports.

“Recently, there have also been isolated serious incidents involving Russian citizens in Georgia, which certainly requires close attention and appropriate action from the Georgian authorities.”

Zakharova expressed hope that the Georgian authorities will take all necessary measures to prevent manifestations of Russophobia and ensure the full protection of Russians visiting the country.

According to her, since 2023, the flow of tourists from Russia to Georgia has increased 1.5-fold to approximately 1.6 million people, and currently, one in every four visitors is a Russian citizen.

During the briefing, Maria Zakharova also stated that the initiative to restore diplomatic relations between Moscow and Tbilisi must come from the Georgian side.
