A 21-year-old transgender man from Russia found dead in an apartment in Batumi

Reports of the young man’s death emerged in the media on August 22—police entered the apartment of Dmitry Menyaev after neighbors complained of a foul odor. According to the family, no visible signs of violence were found on the body.

The body was discovered on August 15, and a forensic examination to establish the cause of death has already been conducted, reports the Georgian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. According to neighbors, the young man stayed indoors almost all the time, worked remotely, and ordered food and other necessities largely online—couriers from Glovo and Wolt were frequently seen near his apartment.

«The family leans toward the theory of murder rather than suicide,» attorney Zviad Markoidze told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. According to him, the deceased had a warm, positive relationship with his loved ones, though neither his brother nor his sister considered his disappearance from messaging apps suspicious, and neither filed a missing person report with the police.

The family received official notification of Dmitry’s death from the Georgian authorities only after his body had been found.
