The rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue is in an active phase, and according to current data, there is no reason to believe the project will be delayed. Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated this after reviewing the progress of renovation and archaeological works on Rustaveli Avenue alongside Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Acting Minister of Culture Mikheil Kiknadze.
“Archaeological artifacts were uncovered on-site during the works. Naturally, we immediately suspended rehabilitation on this specific section, and the archaeological team commenced its work. These are 10th–11th-century findings, which is extremely important for our city. We will await the completion of the relevant works.
As for other sections, the primary task on the avenue is upgrading underground utility lines to ensure this infrastructure lasts for decades. The work will be completed at the end of November. At this stage, there are no issues.”
According to Kaladze, repairs were suspended on only one section due to the archaeological discovery, “however, the archaeologists are working very swiftly.”
“At the moment, we have no reason to speak about extending the deadline for the works. If such a need arises, we will discuss it. As for the business sector, we have received no appeals. Pedestrian traffic along the avenue is unrestricted, but if business representatives wish to meet, we are ready. Our doors are open to everyone,” Kaladze stated.
