In August 2026, month-on-month inflation in Georgia stood at 0.4%, while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 5.6%.
According to Geostat (the National Statistics Office of Georgia), the monthly inflation figure was primarily driven by a 2.2% price increase in the transport group and a 2.5% decline in the clothing and footwear category.
The table below presents the percentage price changes across groups of goods and services in the consumer basket, along with their respective contributions to the overall annual inflation rate for August 2026.
- In the transport group, prices rose by 15.2%, contributing 1.81 percentage points to the annual inflation rate. Increases were recorded in the operation of personal transport equipment (up 20.8%) and transport services (up 12.8%);
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: prices in this group increased by 5%, adding 1.72 percentage points to the annual rate. Prices rose across the following subgroups: fish and seafood (18.1%), meat and meat products (9.8%), oils and fats (7.8%), bread and cereals (7.1%), vegetables and melons (5.5%), coffee, tea, and cocoa (5.4%), milk, cheese, and eggs (2.9%), sugar, jam, and confectionery (1.9%), and mineral water, soft drinks, and juices (0.6%). Meanwhile, prices for fruit and grapes declined (-6.1%);
- Housing, water, electricity, and gas: group prices rose by 8.5%, contributing 0.82 percentage points to the headline index.
In this category, price increases were driven predominantly by the following subgroups:
- electricity, gas, and other fuels (10.3%), maintenance and repair of the dwelling (8.7%), and actual rentals for housing (8.4%);
- Health: prices rose by 5.2%, contributing 0.44 percentage points to aggregate inflation. Increases were recorded in medical products, appliances, and equipment (8.7%), as well as outpatient services (2.4%).
