“The response will be tough,” stated the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (SEMEK) in a statement addressing widespread reports of inflated utility charges issued to consumers by GWP.
According to the commission, the regulatory body has begun examining evidence of widespread overbilling of customers by Georgian Water and Power.
“The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (SEMEK) has initiated a probe into reports of widespread inflated charges levied on consumers in recent days by Georgian Water and Power LLC.
Based on citizens’ complaints, the commission is conducting an individual review into each case.
If the review confirms that Georgian Water and Power LLC billed existing customers for network connection fees in violation of SEMEK regulations and rules, these charges will be annulled (with the exception of cases involving unauthorized connections to drinking water and wastewater systems).
The commission emphasizes: if widespread unjustified charges to consumers are confirmed, strict statutory enforcement measures will be applied against Georgian Water and Power LLC.
This does not apply to consumers who default on utility payments and violate rules established by law,” SEMEK stated.
