Between 2018 and 2025, the volume of transit cargo transported through Georgia grew by 109%, according to a report by the PMC Research Center dedicated to Georgia’s transit cargo flows along the Middle Corridor, news outlet BPN reports.
According to the study, cargo traffic peaked in 2024 during the reporting period, reaching 15.1 million tonnes.
However, PMC data shows that transit cargo volumes contracted by 9.5% year-on-year in 2025, falling to 13.7 million tonnes.
“The primary driver of the downturn was a 7.8% decline in cargo traffic along the East–West corridor. Despite this, the route retains its dominant position, accounting for 69.7% of all transit cargo,” the review notes.
As for the North–West corridor, cargo turnover there fell by 33.5% year-on-year in 2025 to 1 million tonnes—the lowest figure recorded since 2019, the report indicates.
In contrast, PMC estimates that the South–West corridor remained stable over the 2018–2025 period. The North–South route recorded uninterrupted growth during the same timeframe, though a marginal decrease was also observed in that direction in 2025.
